Master the Microbiome Grant

Supporting Microbiomics Research to Drive Innovation and Address Global Health and Environmental Challenges

Mission Statement

The Master the Microbiome Grant is dedicated to empowering groundbreaking research in microbiomics, metagenomics, and the broader field of microbial sciences. Our mission is to drive innovation by providing resources and tools to researchers who challenge the frontiers of knowledge, harnessing the potential of microbiome science to address critical global health and environmental challenges.

We strive to foster discovery, collaboration, and the development of transformative technologies that advance our understanding of microbial ecosystems, their interactions with hosts and environments, and their applications in health, sustainability, and beyond. By supporting pioneering studies and equipping researchers with our innovative solutions, we aim to catalyze scientific breakthroughs that will shape the future of science and society.

Grant Award

The grant will be awarded to five applicants. The grand prize winner of the 2025 Master the Microbiome Grant will receive a $5,000 USD credit, applicable to any of Zymo Research's microbiome products and services, along with an invitation, including round-trip airfare and hotel package, to present their project at Zymo Research's exhibition booth at ASM Microbe 2025 in Los Angeles, CA. Additionally, four finalists will each receive a $2,500 USD credit, which can also be used for any of Zymo Research's microbiome products and services.

Selection Process

The selection process for the Master the Microbiome Grant aims to identify researchers committed to advancing our understanding of the microbiome and its role in health and the environment. The selection committee seeks candidates who demonstrate dedication to their scientific work and explore the complexities of microbiome research. Proposals that align with the mission of the grant—particularly those offering innovative contributions to the field—will be prioritized. Eligible studies may encompass various aspects of microbiome science, including basic biology and translational applications across all organisms.
